my friend has a horse, who has a scar on her nose, after her previous owner punched her, she even admitted it to me! she said she got angry when her horse stopped and punched her in the face?
what do i do? yes! i bloody well shouted at her! im vexed!!! im so angry!
i want to call rspca! what do i do!?!?

There isn't anything you can do. Lots of people treat thier horses in ways you or I might not approve of. Not just something like this which might seem obvious - but people do loads of other things too. Think about over use of the whip, heavy or unbalenced riders, people who don't seek vet attention, even things like rapping or rolkur. Very little of it is cruelty as defined in law.

Yes it is maddening, and deeply saddneing when horses are treated in a way we don't like. But with the best will in the world you can't save them all. At least it was a previous owner and not a current owner.

worse thing is, she has another horse, she yanks around, galloping constently, and shes wanting to buy the horse she punched back!

I agree with littlemisslauren.

I think someone is over exaggerating their "hardness" to you! Perhaps she is vile enough to have punched it, but unless she was wearing a knuckle duster I'd take what she says with a hefty pinch of salt!

Not much you can do about it anyway. Just keep out of her way as she sounds like trouble.

believe what you like, you've never seen the pony, i have.

I'm not saying the pony doesn't have a scar. I'm sure he does. I just dont see how a womans fist could have caused it?

But anyway back to the OP - She doesn't own the pony anymore so nothing you can do and none of your business really:o

I feel the odd punch in the face creates a good bond, and makes the horse aware of your space. I often smack donkey when he is good, just to remind him ..

P.s I am joking, I love my jack..!! X

My horse and I can often be seen grappling and wrestling on the arena floor after a particularly trying session. Win percentage is about 50/50 though, he has the brawn but I have the brains and speed, so I don't consider it cruel. He's got a mean uppercut, and gives as good as he gets....

:D

In all seriousness I see this sort of thing daily and it sickens me so if this is true op I know how u are feeling. Iv had lots off set to's with the owner who thinks nothing of punching in the face, whips across the face, horse kicked the door and had a pick fork chucked over the door at it. Yo don't care as she pays on time and horses look well just v v head shy. I could tell stories to sicken most people so I hate seeing posts like this where people are taking the Mick.
If the horses look good, yo don't care would do u do?
A ring is quite capable of doing damage

not much you can do except advise current owner of the horse not to sell it back to the previous owner.
As for the 'crime' I'll own up and say i've punched my mare on the neck when she snatched her foot away as i was picking it out, she didn't take any notice:o

I find that punching coblet in the face hurts my knuckles so I prefer to punch a fleshier body part. I must be doing something wrong as he takes no notice of me whatsoever ..

Any chance the woman has a twisted sense of humour & is winding you up? One of my friends wintered out her tb last year (who was the picture of health & happiness) & local numptys decided she was cruel. She took great delight in winding them up, & given their outraged response she got ever more outlandish with how she treats her animals. At one point she claimed a kick mark was actually where she'd beaten the horse with barbed wire. If this lady isn't trying to get a rise though I imagine there's little you can do unfortunately.

I think the horse needs some acupuncture to help it get over such a terrible attack. The previous owner would benefit from some hypnotherapy to release some of that negative energy in other ways. They both need as much help as possible.

On a serious note I'd see punching anyone or anything as an anger response and anger has no place whatsoever in the handling of horses.

I'll admit to elbowing my mare in the quarters damn hard when she kicked me, it was instant, obvious to her why I'd done it and she hasn't done it since. But I wasn't angry (I was more shocked than anything) and it worked. I'll also poke rude horses in the ribs if they squash me. So I'm by no means a fluffy bunny hugger but I just couldn't stand by and watch someone punch a horse or hit it in the face, there really is no need for it. If people can't control their anger they shouldn't own horses full stop.
