horse being punched in the face?

Seriously, if anyone has ever punched a horse you will either a. have no response whatsoever, or b. a very sore set of knuckles. I have seen one horse kick another full in the belly with both hinds and seen no more reaction than if a fly had landed. The worst thing you'll do (to the horse) is frighten it with a sudden movement. The worst thing you'll do to yourself is break some knuckles (and serve you right).
 
I punched my boy in the nose once when he bit me......he just sneezed and then tried to do it again!!!! So I threatened him with a pair of plyers......

Oh and you should have a head butting hat, dont use your normal riding hat or people will see:D

This! Have you ever been hit round the head by a horse's head! I bloody hurts doesn't it, could you imagine what that would do to your knuckles!

We need to start an immediate search for an ex horse and knuckle duster owner with a broken hand, then the OP can break the other one.

Does anyone remember that old western where some guy punched a donkey, no idea what it was called.

I'm thinking it may have been Blazing Saddles, but may be wrong.
I NEVER hit my horse, I use the naughty step, and removal of privileges :D
 
Mmm... This is a difficult one! I assume you've tried all the usual, no sweeties for a week, no pocket money, grounding! In the absence of bits, punishment can be a trial. Perhaps it time to don your hat and head butt him then!:D
 
You lot are all soft that's your trouble. Every day I climb onto my horse's back and make him go round in circles - or round the neighbourhood - at a speed of my choice. If i'm feeling really cruel I wrap a rope round his head - if you leave the ends free you can point the horse in a particular direction quite satisfactorily.
 
OP I haven't read all the replies just your initial post.

A punch can easily leave a scar, especially if she had a ring on or connected on the knuckle bone breaking the horses skin.

Firstly, don't sell the horse back to her... Don't even let her think for a second she has a chance buying it back.

Secondly, as someone else has said there's not much you can do re her current horse sadly. Provided she's meeting his welfare needs ie water, feed etc... She can treat him how she wants, however that doesn't mean she can batter or abuse him. Perhaps keep a diary of events and note any witnesses, approach her if you feel confident, you could speak to yard manager or even phone the RSPCA/ WHW and seek their advice. They get bad press but I've dealt with them and found them very helpful.

Worth a shot if your concerned over the horse, but just don't put yourself in a situation where it'll turn to confrontation or you and her are alone as she could twist it... You never know what people will do these days.

You've answered this yourself - contact the RSPCA. I must admit that I get angry with my cat sometimes but I take a deep breath then I cuddle him till he purrs.

My GSD pup (well, he's nearly 1) feels that the worst punishment ever is... enforced cuddles. Luckily for me, he's 'naughty' a lot.
 
If you're leading a horse then a punch will send them back rather than forwards. Unless she did it while riding in which case she really is Mongo from Blazing Saddles.
When mine play up I instantly turn into Anton Du Beke, throw my arms up and make them dance (it's all in the arms you know;))
 
The way my horse behaved last week I wanted to punch him in the face too. After some thought and consideration I decided it would probably hurt me so he got a stern telling of instead, I told him I was disappointed in him, Im sure thats a worse punishment than punching, he definitely understood!! He regularly gets a smacked bottom though for invading my space. Im pretty sure in a punch up he would win though, he has bigger hooves :D
 
I bit my pony once (on the ear) in my defence I was only 9 and she had just bitten right through my finger nail.

Now I would never inflict pain as a punishment - just take a deep breath and educate the fault out of them. The only justifaction for a quick smack on the rump or shoulder is to move a horse out of causing or being in danger and get them to reboot a dangerous mindset quickly. I call it a focussing smack and probably use it once or twice a year.
 
We bought a new gelding into the herd last week and it was very instructional watching mrs horse let him know who was boss. Am thinking of attaching a set of ears to my hat which I can pull back so the can see when I'm displeased ..I've already learnt to wave my foot at them to keep them at a safe distance if required..seems to work:D

Don't forget to lift your tail high but don't do it while waving your foot, you might lose your balance and spoil the effect ;):D
