Horse bit for dressage?

Hi, my horse has been ridden in a Beris ported kimblewick most of his life. Apparently it's very similar to a D ring in the link below.

However, I would like to do prelimentry dressage with him and am assuming I cannot use this bit? Do you think I could "get away with it" at a yard show as he's very strong and fast and I would be worried I wouldn't have much control at all in a snaffle. Also he does get panicky and he seems much calmer in this bit. Any suggestions on what to do would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Where do you attach your reins on this bit? If you put your reins through the main ring the bit is actually pretty close to a hanging cheek. The Beris ported hanging cheek isn't dressage legal, but some ported bits are now. You could try giving the Bit Bank or bit world a call and see if there is an option for you.

Will you be able to use it at a yard show - depends on the yard. Some are really tight on legal bits some are more relaxed as long as the horse is safe. The only way to find out is to ask I'm afraid.

The reigns are attached on the main ring inbetween the space the two curved metal things create (sorry bad terminology!) I'll ask about the bit, but if not give these sites a call- thanks for the help.

Wit your reins on the main ring this really is just a ported hanging cheek. Now all you need to figure out is whether it is the hanging cheek bit you need so you can change the mouthpeice to something dressage legal; or whether you need the ported fixed mouthpeice in which case you have little choice but to go for the myler low ports which are now permitted.
