Went to field today and found my horse had a couple of bite marks from his new field mate. They're not too deep, hair's kinds hanging off but look sore. They're a little swollen as you'd expect but no heat and they're not bleeding.

Being a typical tb wimp I knew I'd have no chance of washing it so I managed to slather them in antiseptic cream and then stuck his fly rug on, hoping to stop flies. The only chance of washing them and properly sorting would be to get him doped.

They're on the side of his neck, just above where the top of rug sits.

I'm going to get him in tonight and see how they look, if he'll let me! Hoping the neck cover of rug hasn't rubbed and made worse. Have I done the right thing? In my opinion they're not deep enough for stitches.

The anti septic cream will do the trick - they will dry and heal themselves, you wouldn't be able to stitch a bite anyway as it would get infected. The swelling will go down in a couple of days and it will scab over, the cream should keep the flies off the bites. My boys are always taking chunks out of each other when they wrestle - we just blue spray and leave to heal.
