My gelding is 18 years old. When i got him he used to bomb off with me. Being just 14 i found it fun.
He hasnt tried a trick like that in about ten years so, i put him in a normal standard bridle and comfort snaffle... he has been in this for about 2 years now and no probs.

THEN Yesterday... He had a fit. Why? Who knows! Cars in front of me, cars behind me... he started to back up the lane, bucking and rearing. When he couldnt back up anymore cos there were cars.. he took off. Aimed at a fence, stopped dead ( i though he was gonna jump it) then galloped up the road (past the cars that had pulled in for us) I had NO control at all. Am scared S**tless to ride now. It was so dangerous. If a car had come up the road, round the corner he galloped round we would have been hit! He is usually a bombproof angel. I stayed on but was so scared and shaking i had to get off anyway.
I think maybe cos he is really fit at the minute he feels he can... and he has recently swapped to horsehage. Anyone else had a problem, how do you get the confidence to ride out again!? Im off to dig out his Mc genis bit again.. never thought i'd need that again!

Nope mines on halege, but I thought maybe it could be the sugarbeet shreads! Bears usually really good in canter but recently he's been pi$$ing off with me in canter and putting in the odd buck! Its quite hair raising LOL!!!

Has he swapped to horsehage from hay? It could give him more energy - my usually lazy WB turned into a psycho on haylage. I'd also get his back checked and maybe all other areas too if it's really out of character for him. Sounds like it was pretty scary though!

when ive used horsehage even my old cob gets a handful my sister has also had the same problem with her youngster he turns into a nutter so put them all back on hay and gone back to normal
i would deff cut out the horsehage if you havnt had any problems for years and thats the only thing you have changed hope it works

My Tb can't have horsehage as it blows his mind!

I must say though that he was an absolute angel from the age of about 8/9 until he hit 18/19 and then he turned into a complete git! He's been like it ever since and is 24 now an frightens me witless a lot of the time out on hacks. I personally think they def get worse as they get older!

How long has he been on it ?
It could possible be that but before you even think of that have you seen to back, saddle , teeth etc all the major routines it seems a bit weird why he has started doing this again as everyone says it could be the haylage as tbs can get heated on foods but i would rule out all other possibilitys.
As to riding i would sort out the problem first then maybe have a lesson or two to gain your convidence back.

hi, i was just about to post a question asking if anyone fed haylage and their opinion of it !
my horse wont eat hay very well, not even the nicest, greenest stuff, we currently feed hi-fi as a replacement but the new yard i am now in do have haylage as an option and i was considering trying my horse on it. from reading up on the internet it does say to cut the hard food down as haylage has more energy in it than hay.

it does have more energy then hay and i would say cut feed down that has high energy in it what kind of breed is it ?
