Horse books? - not novels!

A rather unimaginative but generous pal has just told me I'll be getting an Amazon voucher for Christmas, looking forward to spending it.....

Any suggestions for light but well-written books? Mainly hunting and "practical horseman" stuff as themes, no real interest here in the racing, SJ, dressage, showing side of things!

By way of payback....if any of you have a 7 to 9 YO to buy books for, A Pony in The Luggage is my nap - all about 2 Swedish children who get taken to Copenhagen by their grandmother, win a pony in a raffle and smuggle it home by train. I'll second that - easy to read, anecdotal style but at the end of every anecdote you find yourself thinking "I never thought of it like that"

I recommend New Sensations For Horse And Rider by Tanya Larrigan. It is inspiring if you are stuck in a rut, very interesting and easy to read.

The Fox in the Attic by Jane Shilling - a newbie to riding and hunting and a gem of a book. Also agree with the Simon Barnes recommendation above

Ditto, brilliant books from a common sense horseman who doesn't use gadgets. Written as stories so very easy to read, Considering the horse is the first.

This is a good choice, I loved his books. I also liked the Mary Wandless "Ride with your Mind"

If you are after good old fashioned hunting memoires (but it is fiction) The Irish RM springs to mind.

I haven't got this but it is on my Christmas list as it seems to be described as the bible by most horsey people I know... Its Veterinary Care of the Horse by Sue Devereaux the full version which is about 700 pages. Any and every ailment and practical ways on how to treat.

Dancing with your dark horse by Chris Irwin. Fantastic natural horsemanship type book - it was my bible when I first got my horse.
