7.5 tonner, 3 named drivers... just noticed with recovery its nearly £500 quid.... I was far too busy last year to phone around getting prices... but its due April, so have a bit of time to phone round... any suggestions - i dont do that many miles in it?

I'm insured with Anthony D Evans which are very reasonable. However, I' thinking of changing, although the service is brill.

When the clutch went on the lorry they sent (very promptly) a low loader to get my lorry home. I had young horses on my lorry who would have freaked at being put on the low loader! Fortunately a friend of mine was at the venue who had enough room on her lorry to tale my horses home.

I'm now looking for an I durance company who will send a separate lorry out to collect horses.

Sorry, this is not what you asked and I hijacked your thread! Anyway, A thorny. D Evans is very reasonable

No thats good feed back - I do have recovery on the NFU policy and they will send a seperate box out under this.... but sometimes you need to make sure you are comparing like for like.

Cheers

I had almost an identical quote, rang Julie Andrews Insurance and it came down to about £300, so no longer with NFU, think she put us thru Equity Red Star. But reputable company all the same! Have also had the same with some of our other insurances thru the NFU and she got me some cover for our foal as NFU were expensive for that too.

I had similar experience last year when my premium from NFU shot up to probably close to that.

I moved to Shearwater and pay about £300 including recovery. Their policy has any driver over 25 as standard.

They assured me that they send alternative transport for the horses if you call them out as that was a concern of mine and it included homestart too which I didn't have with NFU.

I haven't had to claim or call them out though so can't comment on whether they live up to the promises.

Having compared quotes last summer & got down to the final 2 - Antony Evans & KBIS - KBIS came out on top purely down to the recovery as they will send seperate horsebox to collect & not just a 'get you home recovery agent' for the lorry. South Essex were ok for breakdown but the premium was over 60% more than the other 2
For what its worth, do double check if taking out recovery as some companies do not provide a full service for horses and vehicle.

SEIB - paid £320 fully comp including full recovery for truck and ponies (Gold service) and any driver over 25 (but have been with them for years and am old!)

Look at 4 counties. I insured box with them (altho just 3.5T) & very resonable. Breakdown with them separately its provided by equity red star. All in about £325 by capping mileage at 3000/yr

Mine is with Shearwater, any driver over 25 and they get a big discount with Equine Rescue, which includes the top cover. Not got it all to hand, but think it was in the region of £400 for everything.
I was put off Antony Evans by the rescue package they offer, and went with ERS before realising it was cheaper to do the lot with Shearwatt.
What I do not have, to keep premiums down, is a no claims bonus on the horsebox. Made it quite a lot more to take one to build up so I have never bothered. If you have one already, it may make it cheaper?

If remember from when I took my policy out the cut off point was £9000. I was quoted for anything up to that value but if I went over it would go into another band.
