Hello from me!

Getting very frustrated and need help.

I go out competing every other week at the moment, and when I do I rent the horse bus (which I have to share as it is so damn expensive for the day) Either that or I ask if I can tag along with someone on the yard (I have done this once in a year as unlike others I feel really bad asking if I can sqush in the lorry) Sooooo here is my predicament

I am 24 and have a liscence where I cant drive over a 3.5 ton lorry. Unfortunately I have aquired a perfectly wonderful warmbllod, the one problem is that he stands at 17.3 hh and therefore is unlikely to fit in a diddy lorry, it is already a bit of a sqush for him in the 5 ton. I cant take my LGV for a year (because of my age).

It would be more economical for me to have a lorry (as I could go out weekly without having to rely on someone) but I cant get one at the moment because of the aforementioned factos!

I have thought about biting the bullet, selling my golf and buying a jeep and trailer, but this still would not be the best option as the horse is so darn big....

What do you do? Please help me with ideas, I am getting so frustrated.
 
You can take it at 21, however a lot of insurance companies wont insure drivers under 25 on lorries. I have been driving mine for almost 3 yrs and I have just turned 26 - you just need to find the right insurance company or ask them to add a named under 25 driver (which is what i did)
 
yes you can take your test at 21. however it is much easier to get insurance IF you go on someone elses policy. SEIB and antony evans said they would insure me (21) on my mums policy (anydriver over 25) at an extra cost.
 
My TB is 17.1hh and him and my friends 17.3hh are perfectly happy with plenty of room in my Ifor 510. I would opt for the trailer and car option, having had wagons all my life I was a little bit snobbish about the trailer, but it is definitly money well spent, easy to pick up and put down with out worrying about servicing/starting/breakdown etc.

Ps You can do your HGV at 21, even heard o people getting on a special young drivers course and doing it at 17!

not convinced on this as my partner is 21 and just doing his HGV training and test the week after next?
 
They both travel fine. Sovereign even has room to buck if made to wait too long at the traffic lights!

The head room is much more generous in a trailer, I have only travelled Sov in a wagon once since I had him, that was hunting on Boxing Day when I got a lift of a friend, he was fine in the wagon to. The best thing about my trailer is the lovely light ramps!

My sister got insurance when she was about 22 through Shearwater as the only driver on her lorry - loads of companies will insure you.
