I stay in the middle lane when driving long distances. the reason I do, is that I had a few near misses with cars merging onto the slow lane to join the motorway. I got sick of cars flying up the slip road to try and get in front of me and nearly clipping me.I find it easier to keep a good regular speed in the centre and if people want to overtake me they can.

But you don't have to. The point of a slip road is so people can get up to the speed of the traffic on the motorway...

If you insist then do what everyone else does and move into the middle/outside lane when you come to a slip road and once everything's merged or you're far enough past it move back into the 'Normal driving lane' (it's NOT the 'slow lane'). Don't sit in the middle lane for the whole journey, make use of it to be polite and let people onto the motorway and then move back.

You're going to piss more people off doing what you're doing and are actually increasing the chances of someone losing their patience and undertaking you (a dangerous thing to do) rather than decreasing your chances.

Then go into lane 2 when cars are merging from slip roads. There’s no need to sit in the middle lane the rest of the time, and it is illegal to do so.
