The police defra and vosa were pulling horses boxes off the M11 and A130 yesterday, they were checking hgv's for taco's dipping tanks for red diesel, weighing smaller lorries to see if your overweight, some kind of new mirror's your meant to have by the 1st of April, and the horses passports, apparantly they are going to have a purge on horse boxes this summer, also they told me I need a loading certificate even though they are my own horses and someone at defra told me month's ago that I did'nt! I think the goverment have found another way to earn money in fines from the poor old worker's speaking of which they also said if you have a full time job of any kind you cannot drive your horse box Sat and Sun as you have to have 24 hour's rest, I found the vosa people very unhelpful and seemed very anti horse box's you have been warned!!!
 
They have to be curved and you must be able to see under the passenger door and round the front of your cab is what the police told me I'm going to contact Oakley's and ask where I got my lorry your best to check with someone who know's the fact's for definate
 
what they meant was that if you drive a HGV for a living then you have to have a 24 hour break,its all to do with the tacho laws it doesnt mean if you have any full time job
 
Also known as idiot mirrors.My hubby who is a truck driver is always saying how stupid people are that they (mainly people on bikes) will stop right besides the truck whilst my hubby is trying to turn left.
 
Yes agree with you i work for a commercial recovery company and our drivers are always moaning about cyclists,also people who drive so close that they can not see them in their normal mirrors rule of the road is if you cant see their mirrors then they cant see you,those wide angle mirrors are not that expensive and to be quite honest they are worth having
 
MACCIMOO interpretation of rules (well VOSA's interpretation!) has changed so it is ANY full time job not just driving jobs which require 24hour rest break. On the plus side from what H&H articles are saying it only applies to HGVs and not 7.5T and under.

But yes it stops any amateur riders who work full time from driving a HGV at the weekend. Somehow I see true 7.5T getting more valuable because of this!
 
yes i see what you mean,i work with hgvs in my job so i always go by the rules that govern them,but surely they (VOSA) would have to get proof of your full time job where as if you drive a hgv for a living then you have a tacho record which is harder to disprove
 
Don't know to be honest but they are apparently now stopping people at weekends!! There is a long thread in Latest news on the subject carrying on from an article in H&H a couple of weeks back.

I only have a 7.5t (which is thankfully very true to weight) not that I'm keeping it as otherwise I wouldn't be able to go anywhere!
 
From what i understand of the rules the pro's are going to be in a right pickle when they travel miles over a weekend and officially work at the events! How this can be policed though i do not know?!
 
Im afraid it does mean any work and not just driving they are going to have a purge on this .
The EU driving regulations state any work not just driving and it means you cannot have full time employment and drive your HGV box be it PRIVATE or commercial with out taking the statutory rest days which include any paid labour.
