Horse burger anyone? Discusted!!

Well from the News late last night it said that there was also pig DNA in the beefburgers and other products tested. What about Jews who do not eat Pig?

The information given out last night was that although it was Ireland that was testing the meat most of the meat originated from Holland and Mexico ( I think it said).

I think most Jewish people only eat kosher meat so that isnt really a problem.

I am most surprised that value burgers have any meat in them at all really.

My understanding of it is, the company that make the burgers for Tesco thought the meat they were getting was beef, so its the meat suppliers to the burger makers that are being dodgy.

However, it is worrying that these burger makers didn't check the quality of their meat that they are selling!

It is undoubtedly entering via the 'black market' somehow..slip a bit in here & there, sell off the prime beef elsewhere for higher prices.. its nothing that doesn't already go on..there have been Chinese takeaways investigated in the uk for their feed containing dog/cat after a spate of animals disappearing locally..there are foods we eat with fillers in -just as you would find in our horse feeds, they do the same to a certain degree with our food..as long as any harmful components are 'trace' it all ads up to save pennies & make them richer. I never ate Mc Donalds on the continent and have seen horse meat on the Swiss supermarket shelves, but all is clearly labelled. I have always steered clear of any saussage type hams such as chorizo as commonly in Spain there will be donkey & horse meat used in with the expected meats..there was something big on this a few years back and i specifically made a conscious attempt to stop eating food that was not labelled with a traceable farmer, his name, slaughter house number & holding number..won't touch processed, nothing that is not organic, local and ideally fresh. At the risk of being accused of my imagination running rife, there have been many detective type films of late with murders, missing bodies & butchers..for this to have been thought up for a film who's to say its not all been done already by some psycho..would be easily done with someone in the know, working in that kind of environment, it would be incredibly easy to lose a few bits here & there..as revolted as this makes me feel...ought to get off here & get some lunch! The only thing that i bet remains sacred now is bacon...if you can turn a veggie with it..you probably have the real thing!:D

ETA I meant food not feed...I eat food..not out of a sack...honest!

This is what I find so frustrating. I want to buy British food products that I can trust, but I can't afford to buy all my meat from a butcher

I totalled up real costs a while back as didn't want to buy from supermarket but love meat and have better things to spend money on.

I worked out that butchers was far more meat for your money than supermarket value packs for chicken and sausages. For every chicken breast I could do a portion with from the butchers I had to use 2 and a bit from supermarket in the little value packs and one and half/2 in large slightly better quality packs and same with sausages, about 1 and a half supermarket to butchers. Other meats lost lots of water after cooking.

I simply serve up less from the butchers but the portions are still the same as buying 'cheaper'. It pretty much breaks even or saves money buying through butchers now.
