Horse buying - losing the will

Really. So describing animals as crap is in your opinion acceptable. Good luck to you and your attitude. I just pity the animal that gets sold to you.
I don't really thinks that's necessary. some horses are really cr@p, we're not saying they're worthless. it's just worded out of despondency because you've wasted time and money coming to see something completely different to what you though it was..

Glad you found one PD and Rara. I'm trying not to look at the moment as I'm seeing ones I like the look of just over the border in England and I can't travel to them as we can only go 5 miles. Prices are also crazy at the moment. Two have been advertised locally, both by friends of friends. The first has done a bit of jumping up to Newcomers and I suspected would be over budget but I really didn't expect him to be £25k! The second was probably far more me but has only done 2 prelims and a few fun rides so I was more hopeful on the price but even he was £12.5k! To be fair, she did say she'd love him to come to me as she knows me and knows I'd give him a good home so if he hasn't found the right home at that price, she'll contact me in a few weeks. She knows my budget so at least there'll be no haggling if she does come back to me. Another advertised fairly locally is a not particularly special 4yr old maxi cob who is only hacking and jumping a few logs while out and they want £7k for him.

wow that's really bad! we've found some nice ones for 7.5k but they come down in price and obviously you can make offers. also, what is it with people selling horses in the south east/west?! most nice ones that I've found that are In budget are a 5-6 hour drive!!! and I've discovered horsey people never answer text messages >:(

Long may the madness continue ... by the end of summer I should be quids in big time with my project I bought 6 weeks ago, lol :)

Anyone else disturbingly interested in what ginerwitch looks like with her troll behaviour? I have a visual of what i think she looks like so would be funny to see if im right!

Ah, if your project was bought to make a profit you will need to sell before the market crashes, which may well be before the end of summer...

I’m pretty sure they can’t hear us ?

But admin can when my posts get reported. They don't care about terminally ill people being bullied or any of the other unpleasant things that happen here, but they soon jump to it when people report me using a forum users old identity ??

I was just about to say, you need to be selling now, not in a few weeks. Things are changing very fast. I'd grab the money and run in your shoes!

I'm in South Wales so South West or West Mids is my normal hunting ground but the ones I like all seem to be in East Anglia or Durham!

I have been looking for a horse for a long time and shocked everyone who knows me by buying one unseen....from his breeder in Ireland. He flew through a vetting and arrived yday, very early days but so far he is 100% as described.
I'm not sure prices will drop very much on the type I was after so I took the chance (after a lifes to short moment!) and hopefully got lucky, time will tell!
Hope yours passes the vetting OP.

Was it you with the cr-ap new user ID?

Did you have references from other owners? I’d be so paranoid that a Shetland or something madly unsuitable would arrive!

Yes, I’m already noticing some horses being advertised still that were for sale last week. As lockdown has eased, I think reality is hitting.

Mine is getting vetted at the end of the week. I’m terrified in case the seller pulls out or it fails the vet. I can’t see why he would though <touches wood>
Really like this pony, everything I was looking for, almost the picture I had in my head during my search! Seller seems really nice too.

Please cross fingers for me!

I do NOT recommend this course of action.

Sellers do not like hearing that their horses are lame/a hand smaller than advertised/badly schooled.
I tried it once, never again. They do not take it well ?
Well fair play to you to speak up about the failings of the viewed horse. Some owners need a reality check.

I’m pretty sure they can’t hear us ?. Of course it isn’t the animal’s fault they have major faults. They might be a crap dressage horse but a perfect hack, or a crap jumper but a perfect dressage horse, or they might just be dog lame and badly schooled and for sale at a huge price. I honestly think you might be overthinking this.
But unfortunately this is a public forum and viewed by all, especially young people. Seeing horses referred to as dross, crap by experienced horse owners and riders sets a tone, that it's okay to say this, treat an animal as rubbish, they will not see a light hearted side. That bothers me, I have seen enough bratt like behaviour from young adults, and the parents can be worse.

At the end of the summer you're likely to be trying to offload a horse (if it stays in one piece) before the winter expenses into a flooded market with crashed prices. Don't count your chickens before they've hatched!

No, and that's an unnecessary comment on a forum. Please stick to horses on a horse thread, not personalities or personal appearance.

Good luck those of you buying unseen! Must be an exciting but nerve-racking wait. I'm tempted to do it every now and again when a beautiful Spanish appears on the website of a dealer I know and trust. Not sure I could do it from someone I had never met.

There is a part of me that would actually love it if a little surprise Shettie toddled off the lorry. I'd know I should be angry, but they're just so adorable, I think it'd win me over!

Do it! I stumbled across a plain bay (err bay dun I guess) Spanish horse 3 years ago and he's the best horse I've ever had. I was biting my nails a bit waiting as it took him a bit to arrive and when he did arrive I was in Italy! So, not at hime. Go figure! I had my YO at the time receive him. I bought from a dealer that I didn't know and didn't trust, but a friend had a friend that bought from him a few times and had good things to say. Having a really keen eye when you're watching a video of the horse helps too.

I've not heard of a a surprise Shetland before! But there are times when I wonder if my horse is part donkey...

As for this board...it is TAME (a good thing) compared to other horse forums out there. Good Lord, some are just savage.

I’d be half relieved, half angry, no pressure to ride for someone who’s lost all confidence, but angry that there weren’t two!

For sure, it’s just a shame some people won’t let go of some stuff, it IS a tame forum and very supportive. Shame some people seem determined to stir up trouble then refuse to use UI. Makes no sense!

I will - absolutely love my Spanish! Will buy from her dealer (now based in Spain) when I have more funds. I have to look low-end of the market anyway, and it's not just the buying but transport; it adds another £1k onto everything  And I really worry about injury on the way over, which I know is daft as many years ago, a horse went through the floor of its trailer about 100m down the road from our yard gate so accidents can happen anywhere.
