I rode my horse as usual on a Saturday morning and then he was turned out. He was turned out on Sunday and the yard owner’s daughter brought him in the afternoon and noticed he was lame. Could not find anything except for a minuscule lump (might have been our imagination) on his near hind. Clay applied and bandaged overnight. Still lame behind. Physio came out and could not find anything wrong but was def lame on opposite front too. Farrier came out and could find nothing wrong but removed shoes. Vet came out and could not find anything wrong. At no time was there any heat, swelling etc anywhere. Vet suggested two bute a day for a week and one a day for the next week in addition to box rest. Seemed a lot better and I began walking out in hand when he was tracking up better with the left hind. First time out riding he was not quite right. It was suggested that he be ridden at walk three or four times a week on the flat for a month and see how he went as the lameness was so subtle that the vet hospital possibly would not have anything to go on. We are just onto our third week of walking. He was absolutely fine this morning but had to come down a slight slope and then was not right and then ok again on the flat. Anyone had any experience of anything like this? Muscle strain done in the field? Will it come right? Feel a bit despondent as he is my horse of a lifetime and at 73 don’t want to have a field ornament.
