Horse Camp breaks..anyone been on one?

Stockand Lovell do a great camp, yummy food, fantastic facilities, brill instructors and also a map of the estate if you want to go for a ride instead of a lesson. Had a great time when I went a couple if years ago

I went to a two week one when I was younger and had a great time, learnt a lot, went to my first show AND got my first rosette :D

I went to one when i was 8/9 , Now i am going again in february with my own horse harvey ( Check out my pics ) at Wheal Buller , I am going with my friend and her horse , They do loads of activities like:
1. Mock hunting
2. Beach rides
3. Bareback
4. Sidesaddle
5. Gymkana
6. Swimming ( With the horses )

& Loads of other activites :D
also for the people they go to the cinema , swimming or watch a movie on the TV and they have a dracuzi !

Went to my first Active Rider camp Somerford Park last year.

I am a happy hacker and my horse had never jumped before.

We were doing (teeny) XC jumps, inc a ditch, on the first day :)

The flatwork lesson gave me some amazing pointers to lock my lower leg in place.

I had a great time.

I would love to go this year but circumstances don't allow.

I did one a few years ago with my horse and very honestly it was the best week of my life. Fell off 3 times within the first hour of the first day (ooops!), but we improved beyond all recognition and i'll never forget the last jump on the last day.

Had a mix of flat work, show jumping, hacking and cross country.

Great opportunity to spend as much time as possible with your horse and great experience to improve your riding. But you will ache for weeks :D

Ive booked the BHS one at Forest Edge in Swaffham Norfolk. Dont know of any others in the east, Im looking forward to it.... with trepidation!

I would love to go on one, but I don't feel I would get much value for money as alot of the activities at my local ones seem to focus on gridwork and jumping, neither of which I can do. I have watched the lessons at one or two and they are way above my standard of riding and I would hold everyone else back. So I ma spending the equivalent on a crash course of lessons with an instructor I feel confident with doing things I'm happy with!

It's not just the instruction, it is spending time with your horse for a couple of days with other like minded people and no demands on you from family/kids etc

I can't wait for mine! The thought of it has hot me through the winter!!

Maisie... A lot of camps are tailored! If you only wanted flat work you could, or if you wanted to try jumping you could specify the height. For example, at active rider, you can put 'beginner' as your standard, and looking at the schedule which arrived from AR yesterday, several people have put beginner for flat work and either SJ or XC!

From my experience, these camps are about spending time with like minded people and improving with your horse...whatever your level! Go for it :-)
