I looking at doing a horse camp next year like the active rider ones, they're bookings have started for next years and I'm wondering if anyone has been on these? I'd be going on my own, are they friendly for lone travellers, do you get good value for money with the lessons? I'm a bit shy so would be nervous going on my own but I don't know anyone else that would do it either.

I'm looking at doing one at Somerford next year - close enough to home if I find it all too much! I know a few of the people at the yard do the ones that are organized by local riding clubs, and ironically they are people that don't normally talk to each other on the yard, become best of friends which lasts until about 2 weeks after they get back :D

Not sure its the same thing but I got to about four "Jump Camps" per year and absolutely love them. Everyone is so friendly as they're all there to enjoy time with their horse, eat good food and learn lots in lessons.

I think they're great value because of how much gets included. I pay about £200 for a stable with bedding already in it, Breakfast/lunch/dinner/pudding the time i'm there and 5 lessons with a BHSII

I would happily go to one on my own and I am quite shy too- but once you've been to more than one you notice the same people go anyway!

I'm not sure where you are based but Stockland Lovell in Bridgewater do fantastic camps throughout the year. As I live in Cornwall and it's abit of a trek to get there I always do the 5 day one. It was £360 this year which included 6 lessons, entry on a fun ride, unlimited hay/haylage, bedding, accommodation and 3 meals a day for us. I think it's fab value for money there and the lessons are 4 to a lesson in the school and 6 on a XC lesson.

I went to camp at Somerford about 3 years ago. It wasn't Active Rider, it was the other brand that runs cams there. I'd absolutely recommend it. I went along, everyone was v friendly and I loved it. Learnt loads, great lessons with good trainers, really pushed me out of my comfort zone and felt I got to know my horse much better (hadn't had him that long).

Love going to camp. Been to 2 places, both times I didn't know anyone the first time, I'm not normally particularly social but it's easy to get on with people as you have a lot in common. The intense lessons really help my riding . About to book my space for the 4th camp pre event season next year :)
If you are looking in the north, I'm happy to recommend.

Ive been to Bobbis horse camp at Somerford Park a couple of times. Thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot. Jumped things I would never have done otherwise. Food and entertainment at night was great as were the facilities for the horses. Definitely recommend it!
