We're doing the 3 day April camp this time

Wow looks fab i might have to come. Pics are great. Im going to do all things like that this year, dodnt do much last year, so going ot get new boy out and about. How big is yours? Looks about16.2/17.2.

Sounds great my mare isnt too far from there so might be possible - dependant on my confidence lol!

Cosmo Sam would you mind pm'ing me some costing details - what did you pay last year for it all.

Also what sort of things can you do can you just do flat work? Do you have to be competant to begin with? Do you need fancy competing clothes?

Thanks

Hb

I'll Pm you the costs but as for the other things :

Horse camp is NOT competitive! they won't have it! People have suggested mini comps etc, but the girls who run it are adamant it's for people to have fun whilst at the same time getting the best training.

They say there are plenty of places to compete and HC isn't one of them. They won't even have best turned out etc, as they don't want people who can't afford any fancy kit etc to feel out of it.

You choose 2 disciplines out of flat, SJ and XC

the SJ on a two day camp is grid work one day and SJ the second.

I've done SJ and XC on 2 camps, dressage and SJ on two and this year I'm doind dressage and XC with George

There are all levels of riders there although the eventers are getting on to the fact that it's top tuition at fabby facilities and are infultrating more and more

(despite snorting at us the first year!

)

But there are still plenty of novices and people there to boost their confidence. You just specify your level on your entry form, and put in the notes if you have any special requirements (such as young horse, nervous rider etc)

Nobody is ever left out, and eveyone tends to make a huge fuss over the person who has made the biggest personal achievement (one year a 70 year old beginner learned to do rising trot! he'd only ever hacked out prior in wolk on a pony that was supposed to be for his granddaughter but he'd ended up caring for - it was lovely!)

Hope this gives you a feel for it

George is just over 17hh

As for the getting out and about - that's why we tend to do a camp early in the year. My jumping nerve seriously deteriorates over winter, and an intensive camp with such wonderful facilities really does give me a kick up the proverbial

Oh just meant to add, there are lots who do JUST flat work!

It just means you do 2 flat lessons a day

I'm sure they would do one polework session or something to vary it if you needed

Funny I remembered your big grey! You werent the one that kept us awake on the first night were you? This year we're cheating and have booked the stabling and trainers on our own. I think there's 5 of us. If you get there on the 13th we may see you as planning to do farm ride that afternoon after xc in am.

hey that me in pic 5!!!
I opted not to go to camp this year but due to change in horse I wish I had but hey thats hind-sight!

Ahem!

It wasn't me, but "someone" in our group may have been guilty! I was tucked up in my wagon, and can sleep through anything!

Tehe I'll believe you! My lorry certainly didn't block that noise out! Didnt know whether to laugh or commit murder.

Had a great time though, and it really is for all levels.

It was close, luckily legs weren't working very well after a few 'sips' of wine. Just realised 3 day one is at end of April not 13th, so wont see you there. Have fun!

Apologies it may well have been my 4x4 alarm as I left the sun roof open and apparently it went odff for mosyt of the night but I didn't hear it

I would have done if it was the two night one, but 3 nights is a bit expensive! Then the 13 - 15th April sounds Fab, but travelling down and doing the farm ride on A FRIDAY 13th! Not sure about that!

Have just been debating today which one to do! Might do a Tracey Newman one for a change!

I was at the one day Horsecamp last weekend - s/j and xc technique jumping clinics. The s/j was with Tracey Newman, thought she was excellent & would definitely consider more clinics with her.

Have done the 2 night Horsecamp at Somerford - did the s/j and xc options - good fun but did worry at the time that it was a bit much doing 4 jumping sessions over the weekend (especially as I was on my then 19yo horse - though he turned out to be fitter than a lot of the others there!). Its a pity you can't do lessons in all 3 disciplines over the two days.

I'd love to do something like that to get my confidence up and get my youngster going with some good facilities, but we're so out of the way down here, everywhere is a mission away
