Hi my horse wouldn’t move in the field just over a week ago, the vet came and advised 4 Bute per day then reduce a couple of days later to 2 Bute, a couple of days later he seemed to be doing really well, so I thought an hour in the sick paddock will be nice… but he’d rolled when I went back to get him in an hour later, he couldn’t walk…..so after a bit of persuasion we got him back to the stable, the vet came and said the pain was coming from his pelvis, but was unsure where, he scanned him for any fractures or broken bones but he was all clear and after a couple days of days of 2 Bute per day,he seemed to be improving a lot….then yesterday morning I arrived to find that he’d laid down in his stable and couldn’t move again, he literally stayed in exactly the same spot in his stable for 24 hours I upped his Bute back to 4 per day and he had moved a tiny bit in his stable but not much at all….. I’m so scared he’s 20 years old and I don’t want to lose him the vet is saying he just needs time

I sadly went to the yard very early on Monday morning and he hadn’t moved all night, I gave him his Bute and after about 45 minutes he tried to walk in the stable, he was wobbling about all over the place, and then fell down, sadly to say he passed away just as the vet arrived I’m totally heartbroken….
I’m so sorry for you losing him, and so suddenly, it must be such a shock. It sounded like a serious health event happened to him, and you did all you were advised to do for him to help him be pain free. You were with him at the end too, which must have been a comfort for him.
It’s so very sad losing them at any age and condition, and never easy, im so sorry…big hug x
