I am currently horse hunting and have been out of the game for the last 6 years. I have also moved so lost all of my old contacts such as farrier, dentist, physio etc.

I am at the minute researching local yards and working out a very rough budget so if you are in the East Midlands (Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire areas) how much are you paying for the following?

DIY stable and grazing
Part livery
Trim
Front set of shoes
Dentist
Saddle fitter
Physio (general checks)
Insurance - How much do you pay and what does it cover vet fee wise?
Vaccination appointments
Hay
Bedding

Anything else I haven't mentioned?

Thank you in advance :)

So I can’t help on all of these but happy to share what I can. I’m Midlands and I don’t think my farrier or physio would stretch to Nottingham/Derbyshire boarders but my dentist lives in South Derbyshire. I’m very happy to PM her name if it helps, even if she can only recommend in your area.

DIY stable and grazing - I’m at home and sufficiently out of touch

Part livery - ditto

Trim - £35 each, recently up from £30. He comes for my two and accommodates early evening appointments and on the whole is reliable

Front set of shoes - not shod sorry

Dentist - £50 each. Comes for just my two

Saddle fitter - I have field ornaments!

Physio (general checks) - £50 each again she comes for just my two

Insurance - How much do you pay and what does it cover vet fee wise? - I only insure public liability which is just over £40 per horse with KBIS

Vaccination appointments - mine are vaccinated in December so I can’t recall last bill

Hay - I pay £5 per small square bale, bought in bulk annually and I collect. I could find it cheaper but the guy is reliable and it’s nice stuff

Bedding - mine generally live out and I tend to stock up in bulk and store. Last time I did so about 12 months ago I paid £6.80 per bale of chopped rape straw

I don’t benefit from shared call outs or reduced rates if physio (for example) is doing a full day on one yard. So that’s why I refer to just coming for my two.
