Seriously I assume if they are ok for horses they are ok for humans.

Do farmers just grow separate fields of horse carrots or are they the supermarket cast offs? There is always a ready supply at the feed merchants.

i have always wondered, is there anyone who actually works in the horse carrot industry? One of life’s mysteries!

I also think they taste better than supermarket bought ones. A bit odd as I know they come from the same place. I pick mine up from a big carrot producer near us - Poskitts - you drive into their car park and there's a little shed they fill with nets of pony carrots for you to collect yourself and pay in the office. They're all washed just like the supermarket ones. A lot are weird shapes (there's a fair few two legs and a dangly bit) but not all. But Poskitts supply to lots of local supermarkets too and I can't believe they save the best tasting ones for the ponies. Maybe it's to do with the bagging/storage?

If cooked then the temperature will kill off any bacteria anyway and tbh most supermarkets don’t keep things how you would expect anyway. Warehouses or any kind also have some sort of vermin problem. Same a a selection of restaurants

Stock feed carrots and potatoes are safe for human consumption, they have just failed what ever standard the buyer expects. When my mum and step dad were hard up the virtually lived on stock feed, the potatoes were sprayed with veg dye purple so the could not be resold. They had been grown to make crisps but failed the starch test, and are sold by the lorry load, sometimes you can get a truck load from the wash plant where they are sorted.

£5? Make sure you know the weight, sometimes the loss leaders in the supermarkets are cheaper per kg than the orange nets.
This is from a farm shop, it’s a burlap sack full. I wouldn’t want to estimate weight but it’s hefty lol you even get a few potatoes for good measure, just need some gravy and you have a dinner 😛
