Horse catching mites/worms from sheep?

Does anyone know if skin conditions or similar can be caught from sheep. My youngster is intensely itchy, it's bizarre and nothing else is. The only thing I can think if is that there were sheep in his field a few weeks ago.
On Friday I thought he may have gotten stung, I am going to worm him tomorrow (when shop opens) but his rear end/ hocks are driving him mad!!!

Could be simple threadworms, he's due to be wormed, but again it seems a bit strange that it's just him & we never get worms (Spring wormcount came back zero).

Sheep have different worms to horses, which is why they are recommended to rotate with horses, the horse worms cant live in their gut and vice versa so it breaks the cycle.

So suspect theres another cause...

Even though the sheep weren't supposed to be in the field, I was not bothered about it, for this very reason. I did wonder about Threadworms though - not convinced the farmer in question would ever worm his sheep - don't sheep get threadworms?

They can, yes, but theirs tends to be host species specific, so unlikely they are passing them to the horses. If anything their presence would be a diluting effect. I dont think they would have done the worm burden anything but good.

It doesnt seem to be regarded as like tapeworm which can and does affect multiple species including humans!

The wormer should sort out any threadworms present, tho I still feel its more likely the horse has become 'itchy' for unrelated reasons,' itchiness' can come on at any time and the others be unaffected. Also youngsters tend to be drama queens if they get at all itchy! They rub themselves like mad and throw a drama queen episode!

Several of mine are itchy, we have had a long dry spell. I usually give them a wash with Dermaline or Tea Tree shampoo and apply some de-itch cream. A fly bite in the tail can drive them mad and they will rub bare.

My horse itches his bum, rubs his tail and rubs his hocks. We have never found the cause despite blood tests for allergies, worming, skin scrape for mites etc. I think he may have mild sweet itch?? His hocks are fine at the mo but his tail resembles a bog brush

I've been a bit mean not doing anything about this yet - because he is a complete drama queen, never seen a horse like it!!
