i thought seeing my mare is in foal i would get a loan 4 a couple of years, i rang the local horse charity and this rather rude lady said ive got to much on my plate to have a loanee from them, i told her my mare in foal , and i have a retired mare at 30 yrs, and a yearling, and she was most rude, i told her i have plenty of grass stables money and time 4 another, but she blanked me, thing is i will prob but one now , but b4 i did i thought give a poor rescue horse a home, wen i told my friend about it she said that wen she applied 4 one last year they told her she wasnt good enough at her riding, and shes 43 yrs old with a top dressarge horse, i think its sad that good homes are being overlooked.. thats all. lol ..

Which charity didn't want you, I applied for a job at one recently as a home checker but didn't get the job.Shame.
Does seem strange as you obviously have experience, their loss and the horses

my understanding is that there are more people offering homes to rescue horses than there are rescue horses. It does kind of make sense that they would rather loan to someone who does not have other horses as I guess they think the horse would not get as much care.

Don't rule it out altogether - try another charity - perhaps that one just wasn't for you.

Or you could go to the sales and 'save' something that would otherwise go for meat.

umm, i don't think most charities would loan a horse if it was going to be on its own. when i got a rescue pony on loan from SWHP, i had about 6 other horses, but nothing suitable as a friend for my foal. they were very happy to let me have one... in fact, i ended up with 2!

Just don't apply to a certain Equine Protection charity in the South West! Evil ignorant woman there. I'd suggest you try another charity, maybe a smaller less well-known one.

it wouldnt have been so bad if she had visited me , but she snubbed me ova the phone, somwhwere in wales, she can bog off now ... lol,
