Does your horse do this?

This morning riding early in the woods I came across a deer in the middle of the bridleway my horse stopped to look at it and then on his own volition started trotting after it as it ran away which made me smile.

It reminded me of the time a deer got into his paddock and he went on the attack and chased it out of the field. Probably thought it might eat his grass :D

Maybe he could have a new career a cutting horse? :D

Mine was a bit wary of the sheep on the common when I first took him up there, so I pointed him at them and convinced him to walk towards them, causing the sheep to scurry off. He was absolutely delighted by this and now actively walks towards them if I'm not concentrating.:) He's never met deer though.

How funny, you obviously have a horse with attitude!

We had a Llama get in with ours, one minute the horses were chasing the llama then the llama was chasing the horses. It was hysterical.

The funniest thing I think I ever saw was when my old boy was turned out with his field-companion (both now long gone, bless 'em) and a deer got into the field.

My old boy was the classic plod, but by golly when he saw the deer he picked up his head, arched his neck, snorted like a dragon, and chased.......

Round and round they both went, flat out, necks horizontal, hooves flashing like they were running at Cheltenham, it seemed to go on for ages, deer ahead of them - until it found a gap in the hedge and jumped through it.

Result: two very pleased Old Boys, lathered with sweat, but with bright eyes that said very plainly "if any more of you Barstewards come into our field, you'll get more of the same". Hilarious, I never laughed so much.

:D It was the same for my boy with the one in the field - I think the deer had a nasty surprise and had to flee for it's life!

I wanted to chase after some sheep last week out in a hack. We were going through a field full of them and I thought it'd do spooky TB good ..however was with his owner and I don't think she looked very approving so instead I made him trot after a car that went past us when we got back to the track. We've been avoiding the fields with the cows though! They are too scary still.

I don't think the owner of the sheep would have been too pleased either!

I have to admit though that our first horse's favourite game was to snort over the wall at young cattle we passed on hacks and then watch them run away.

When my bully boy met Donkeys for the first time, he hid behind the woosy 17hh TB, in the corner furthest away from the Donkeys, only taking a step forward when the Tb did, now he ignores the Grouse on the moor, bites the bullocks over the fence and chases the lambs out of his field, when he did have a deer in his field, he just stood and watched it
