Horse clicking - advice needed

Hi,

Has anyone else had this 'problem'? My new 4 year old warmblood makes a strange clicking noise when he walks. It stops when he trots or canters and it's not his boots brushing or anything on the saddle/bridle. IT doesn't seem to be all the time, and I had him vetted and no problems came up. He definitely doesn't seem uncomfortable - but it does sound like its coming from his back end.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Ella my old pony use to do have this some times when I first got on, it was like a clicking from the hip. However after a quick walk around the school it went, she was never lame or uncomfortable. She passed a full vetting also when I sold her.

I suppose it’s a bit like a human who has a clicking muscle, my toes click when they are cold, nice!

My sister horse has the same problem, got the vet out and he said that it was a clicky pittela (sp) joint, and was not a problem.
Must admit it is very annoying when you are riding and he clicks, yuk.
Clicking bones is one of my pet hates!

my boy has a clicking sound coming from his hip area- vet said it's a clicking stifle and not to worry - doesn't seem to be painful which is the main thing.

My warmblood did this too but grew out of it as she muscled up/ got fitter. Vet said its quite common and not to worry!

Ah, that's great. He is very weedy and lacking muscle, so hopefully it wil sort itself out. It's kind of offputting though!

I competed a horse that had this too and it was a clicking stifle and caused no other problems and yes it is off putting particularly in a nice quiet dressage arena!

It depends totally on where the clicking is coming from. If it is the stifle, which I have to say, I doubt, then the horse could have a mild form of UFP. If it is from the fetlocks then it is likely just the ligaments snapping as he is moving. Neither one is a particularly big deal though; the UFP will improve as condition improves, the clicking ligaments will always click but generally cause no damage.

Dragon (Rheinlander) clicks like that and we've been told it's just air in the joints (or somat like that!) and nothing to worry about

Mine does this when cold from stable, or she used to before i started feeding linseed jelly now her and her stable mate are more or less clickless.!
