What type of clip should I give my horse? He gets ridden about 3-4 times a week. We go hunting some Sundays. We also do the odd competition. Would just like to know what other people think??
Unlike some others on here id take it all off to be sure for hunting and competitions. But then i have a coblet and am worrying about keeping weight on him.
With me it would depend on if stabled at night or not plus where and how they cope in the winter. If stabled and good with weight I would do a full clip, otherwise i go with a blanket or high chaser clip
I prefer to take as little off as possible while trying to make sure the horse doesn't get too sweaty. I definitely prefer to leave coat over the quarters and take the hair from where the horse gets sweaty first (neck/shoulders/belly) so bib/Irish chaser.
I'd say a blanket clip if you have a rug with a neck, or maybe a high trace clip and if this is not enough then take the neck off?
depends on the horse, I have mine hunter clipped (sometimes with half face, sometimes not- i tend to alternate on each clip depends on the weather!) and as she gets warm quickly despite not doing heavy work (ridden one hour 5 days a week and this is going to decrease a lot with exams coming up and the crappy weather) must have the correct rugs to keep them snuggly
I'd blanket clip too...i'd leave half a head on and take the back end middling high - then you can do the second clip higher round the back end if needs be...
