Horse colours on passport

Just got off the phone to the passport agency who have rejected Aiiro on the colour the vet put on the application (Blue maximum sabino - which is exactly what he is genetically) apparently hes only allowed to conform with the list of colours that they have, so really its pointless having an "other please give details" option. The lady i spoke to was lovely but said "you'll have to have him as grey" which annoys me because he msot certainly isnt and she then said "well has he got black skin, white horses are very very rare" "Erm, no he's pink skinned everywhere" I know I'm a total stickler for colours so probably over reacting. Winge over haha.
 
I have passported unusual colours in the past and have always used the correct jargon with no problems. I think putting down Blue may be causing the problems with registering as blue isn't a colour (people sometimes refer to Black roans or Greys as Blue but it isn't a correct term in my opinion). I am guessing your horse is a maximum sabino on a grey or black base base, if you state this instead of blue but you shouldn't have any problems registering as max. sabino at all.
 
I suppose they way you put it he would be a max sabino on a black roan base. Sadly it is the max sabino bit that they donot recognise! Eugh

I'd probably put in Back roan Maximum sabino, to shorten it a little, but if they aren't accepting maximum sabino I'd suggest you register elsewhere.

Can I ask who you are trying to passport with? I've never had any problems before from any of the issuers I've used, if you don't want to use a breed issuer try the Scottish Sports Horse Society, they have always been helpful in my experience.
 
If it's the Horse Passport Agency, then they have a tick-box system and you have to choose one of the colours they have. If you go with any of the others, like Weatherby's, SHGB, PetID, Farmkey etc, you simply write the colour on the application.

To get round it, you can always put Grey in brackets to save them ringing you when they're putting it into the system because they'll never understand what the colour is
 
It is the horse passport agency. And whilst I agree they have a tick box system they also have a tick box for "other please give details" so if they arent going to go with it then they may aswell notboherhaving the tickbox
 
Horse Passport Agencies manager has declared that Aiiro has to be registered as CREAM! I'm sorry but now I have lost complete faith in the agency, do yo reckon if i ask them to return my application form and refund my application cost so i can send it elsewhere who will register him properly they will?

They sound entirely useless, I would ask for a refund if I was you. If he is the foal you posted photos of he isn't cream by any stretch of the imagination, he hasn't got pale blue eyes for one thing, and registering him the wrong colour could cause you difficulties in the future. Try CHAPS, they probably know what they are talking about, or SSH as I've never had difficulties with them (it has been a while though so they might have changed management now)
 
They will not refund money but mum has told me to just cancel the application. We're very worried if he is registered as a colour other than what he is that he would be difficult to trace if he was stolen, if i was told i was looking for a stolen horse passported as cream i would walk straight past him. Going to give chaps a call tomorrow. Hopefully they'll help, i know they approve blagdons.

They would say that! :mad: As far as I know both Weatherbys and the BHS still do ID passports plus of course SHBGB do them for anything to make over 14.2. All three societies will give a much better quality passport without security issues too. HPA ones are rubbishy so you've had a lucky escape.

So far weatherbys are the first ive spoken to who will passport him as white, which is absolutely fine by me :) Will call other issues aswell to see what they say
 
Be warned, the words "CHAPS" and "helpful" do not go together in the same sentence ...

Slightly off topic but relevant on the basis of identity, my mare is down in her passport as chestnut, which indeed she was at birth, but both my vet and I knew she would be grey and registered her as such (and vet put her as grey on the markings chart). Because her tail hairs (needed for DNA testing) were chestnut, the NIHB registered her as chestnut. She is now mostly white with a few dapply bits and a white mane and tail :rolleyes:
 
SHBGB will register him if im confident he should make 15.2 :confused: havent the foggiest what he'll make, his mum is 14.1 at the moment and the vets think she'll have a growth spurt after hes weaned as shes been in foal since she was 2 and has just turned 4. His dad was 14.2 at 2/3 yrold. Eeeh this is hard work

Are you sure they said 15.2 as it's always been 14.2 since they first started and says so on the registration forms? :confused:
