heya,

at a bit of a loss to whats caused it but my horse has come out with bumps/hives along his withers. They came up Tuesday and although he's not as itchy as he was, they are still there and theres no way I would put a saddle on him as would send him loopy.

he's had no change in feed or routine or field. the only thing it could have been was rugs as I put his lightweight on for the 1st time since autumn....could it have been a bit damp/mouldy????? saying that he's then been out naked since Wed so they should have gone down?

we've tried bathing him and putting various creams and anti itch stuff on.

Any ideas? should I now be getting a vet out?

My old mare used to have the same prob it was the washing powder i had used on her numnah, or rugs. had to make sure i only used non-bio with her.
Normally a hibi-scrub bath and few day in the field solved the prob.

Normally these sort of things tend to happen when they get too hot or they are having too much cereal in the feed , maybe he got too warm , even under a light weight , mines boiling at night and he's clipped out! Maybe - and god knows how you would be able to tell - but perhaps the light weight is'nt so breathable any more.?

Thanks guys. You're right about maybe him getting too hot as he's unclipped. He was a lot better today and trying to underug him overnight now that he's out 24/7 to keep him that little bit cold instead of hot. fingers crossed they go completely within a few more days.
