There is a small group of horses kept just up the road from us.

The grazing is poor and the fencing is even worse.

They are hungry and one in particular has developed a way to go through the fencing and is constantly found wandering along the lane in search of food.

I have no idea who owns them and have never seen anyone there. They are in fair condition and have access to water.

The police are constantly in attendance as we have no idea who else to report it to.

Given the fact they abasically cared for is it worth contacting RSPCA or ILPH?

Any any ideas on what to do?

My real concern is that we will be out with Blitz and loose horse + stallion = DISASTER!

Any suggestions on where to go from here?

i think that i would try the rspca, they have powers that will make it easier to locate the owner. take care about approaching the owners directly yourself people can be very funny!!!!!.
voice your concerns with rspca you never know they may be aware. i am surprised the police have not done more.
i suppose you could try putting a note on the gate when the horse has been out and replaced to the field, maybe the owner is not aware ( if they turn-up and horses in field they would not know).
hope you get some help but please take care about approaching them directly.
good luck

hey i'd def contact the rspca they should come out to assess the horses and try to track down the owner, esp as fencing is bad and lack of food. they should be able to sort it out. In the meantime do u have any old electric fencing that u could use just to try to keep them in the correct field?
Good luck

Try World Horse Welfare (what was the old ILPH).

I reported horses near me that had no grazing left, and one was terribly lame. RSPCA were useless, but the chap from WHW came out, saw the horses, knew who the owner was even though he lived 2 Counties away, and got the problem sorted!

If those horses down the lane are in a similar condition I'd hazard a guess that WHW will know about them.
