Horse convinced he's a bloodhound!

Anyone else got one of these?? Whenever I take Merlin for a pootle up the road (we're hacking in hand at the moment) he spends half the time sniffing the tarmac as we're walking along. Sheep poo seems *incredibly* interesting! It's almost as bad as taking the spaniels out.

I suspect my 6-y-o niece, who visited over the summer, has been telling him about her favourite horse, Maximus from Disney's 'Tangled'....

Im so naming my next horse Maximus! i purchased tangled two weeks ago and watched it god knows how many times. Even watched it this morning! Maybe merlin looks up to maximus? haha.

Seriously though, that horse is the best character and then the chameleon

Yup my mare is a big sniffer, anywhere new or in the school nose goes down and she sniffs away.

Used to terrify my instructor but never really bothered me, is just funny

My Merlin's the same - if he sees a pile of horse poo (or thinks he does, or anything like it) that's it. If I let him, he slams the brakes on and tries to inhale the tarmac.

Yes, mine's like that and when he's not being a hound, he think's he's a goat sampling my jacket etc in a gentle interested fashion!

Yess! My youngest does this. She'll do it far more when walking in hand but even when ridden if i let her walk around on the buckle her nose is on the floor. She does it in trot too

long reining my youngster last weekend she walked along with her nose on the floor- at one point I nearly walked up her backside!!!
