I have been given the option of loaning out one of the horses i share and keeping it on current yard with no livery cost. What are the other cost i need to think about, so far i have a list of feed, hay, vet, farrier, insurance and rugs although there is already some rugs. I am trying to work out how much more than a different share horse it would be, any help will be gratefully received.

dentist, physio, saddle fitter. Money set aside for any new equipment should rugs be torn etc. Costs for travel, shows etc?

matchy matchy outfits:D Not much more to add to be honest, the best thing you can do is work out as near as you can an annual 'costing' eg, how much for shoeing per year, worming, how much bedding per month x 12, work this all out for the year and you will have a nearish costing per month. it is always good to have a cushion if you can. Look at different available options, barefoot v's shoeing, worm counts vs worming, KBIS do the best value insurance, way way lower than anyone else I have found and have good reviews in terms of customer service and paying out. Clipping cost... will you clip out? Will you shoe or trim and maybe use boots? Look at suitable feeds and cost more than one up, it may be that a chaff and a vit/mineral supplement works out cheaper for you, and will suit this horse. There is somewhere a thread where someone kept a cost diary and put it on horse and hound. I can't remember who or what the thread was called but someone else might.
