Hey all !!

I've been out of the horsey game for a bit, was wondering if you could all please give me an approximate breakdown of how much your horse/s costs you per month and what rough area you're in?

I'm in scotland, and trying to work costings for my 17.2!

Thank you in advance :)

I have a cheap grass livery arrangement at £60 pcm, however this is unusually cheap.
Full set of shoes every 8 weeks so works out about £40 a month
Wormer every now and then £6 a month would cover it.
Hay in winter. Probably £60 a month roughly but this isn't all year round. Right now he gets nothing.

I don't tend to feed hard feed and I don't stable so no bedding.

Vaccinations and teeth annually £90 approx so monthly like £7?

So around £170 for me on an expensive winter month. Around £110 for a summer month. Somewhere inbetween in spring/autumn.

£150 a month DIY livery, with school, individual turnout, stable and hay all year round. Feed and bedding are extra, currently not using either as she's out all the time. Trimming £25 every 6 weeks. Very West of Wales

Morayshire.
DIY Livery has varied from £50 - £110 per month depending on facilities and hay/straw included.
£55 front shoes. £25 for a trim.
I do worm counts and equisal tests twice a year plus worm in winter.
Vacc/dental is about £100 but one pony gets dental twice a year.
Feed is £10 per month and doesn't vary wi yer or summer. Simple vit and min supplements.
Roll of hay is £25 and I go through 5 per pony per winter on average.

I figure I probably spend approx £150 per pony per month in summer and nearer £200 in summer. x2 14.1hh native ponies.

DIY livery £130pcm
Livery services t/o b/i 7d £93pcm
Haylage £60pcm
Bedding about to go up as can’t use straw anymore probably £40pcm for shavings
Insurance KBIS £3k vet bills £68pcm
Shoes £80 every 6w
Feed - good doer warmblood so around £10 a month
Dentist every 6m because it’s a good idea for 6m checks and I get anxious if I’m not doing everything the best for her £120 ish
Saddler every 6m £40-100 depending on what’s needed
Worm counts every 2-3m £10
Vaccines 6-12m depending on competing rules £100 maybe (I sedate for them, she is scared of vets)
random odd bits that she needs if things break/get lost probably about £15 a month if I divide it all out

Mildly terrifying when I tot it all up, but she is worth every penny

Round here (southern cotswolds) you can get DIY for 30-60pw, part livery (everything but riding) for £110-160pw, and ridden livery for £140-250pw. With the ranges dependant on the quality of yard & facilities.
Hay is super expensive at the moment. Decent straw virtually impossible to find so everyone is on bagged bedding. Farriers start at around £80/set.

Cheshire based here

£25 p/w for stable
£15 p/w for hay or haylege
£7.80 per bale of shavings (I use about 5-8 a month, more if she is in a lot. I like big beds)
£40 feed/supplements every 2 months
£10 on treats per month
£100 on extras inc saddlecloths, transport as needed to vets, horsey bits and bobs (I like to shop)
£52 insurance monthly
£70 farrier monthly
£65 physio monthly
£50 dentist every 6 months
£62 saddle fitter every few months/as needed
we have to pay to use the arena so that's about £5 a time, I don't use it as much now- so maybe about £25 a month
Livery services, this varies, sometimes its extremely expensive ie nearly £200 every 2 weeks, but my last bill £65. Generally its £100 for every 2 weeks worth of services.

edit: I've been unlucky in that I've had to pay £2000 worth of excess for vets aswell, so an emergency fund is vital!

edit2: my old pony/horses were cheaper to keep as I used to be on straw, didn't use as much livery services, had cheaper insurances etc. when I had just my first pony she cost £200-300 to keep as she was a good doer. It is possible to keep them cheaper, unfortunately that's not the case for me and my high maintenance mare :D
