What is the best way to reduce this? He is already bedded on easybed and has all his hay soaked! he has over 12hours out a day?

Someone suggested benilin (sp) or a similar human cough syrup, can i use it? If so how much and for how long?

How long has he been coughing??have you spoken to vet??My lad had a cough and snotty nose beginning of this yr,when ridden he coughed alot and wouldnt clear afterwards...i too did the hay soak etc..got vet out in end and he had a virus that vet said due to crappy weather like ourselves, feeling down etc he couldnt shift it!!
Quick test..vet did this..lymph glands in their jowl(sp),see if they are slightly raised,if they are squeeze them,if they are sore and he pulls head away he is likely to have a virus!

however this winter, due to the late cut of hay and it being sooo dusty he did get a cough...put him on haylage and now he is fine

Could you try the haylage??or maybe some sort of supplement?

cough syrup wont help if he has a dust allergy!
