Hi need some help my orse has a cough and a little bit of white snot but only after giving a good blow, she is not coughing badly she lives out all year as she hates the stable.
we have moved yards two weeks ago none of the other horses have a cough but there are bulls in the bottom field who are coughing.
my horse is ok in her self moving around as normal and eating her shaff in a morning which she has been on for two months now.
she did have the tetanus and influenza jab on tuesday last week.
please can anyone help :( what have i done wronge i am a first time horse owner so really need some help.

Sometimes the flu jab can make them feel a bit poorly for a couple of weeks. I would keep a very close eye on her for the next week and if she is no better ring the vet.

We had the vet to ours a couple of weeks ago (she's 27 and we haven't seen the problem previously), he told us that he has never seen such a year for coughs in horses and many are allergy related. He prescribed ours an edible version of 'ventolin' and it does seemed to have helped. He predicted that the cough would cease with the start of winter and the cessation of allergans. As an aside the medicine also seems to have helped her old lamanitic hooves which is a little odd if not unwelcome. I guess it is a vascodilator and maybe its helped her blood supply. I hope this helps, though obviously don't hesitate to get the vet as it might be something completely different.

I have also heard that there is a lot of lung worm around too, so maybe a wormer would help?
