What is the best way to reduce this? He is already bedded on easybed and has all his hay soaked! he has over 12hours out a day?

Someone suggested benilin (sp) or a similar human cough syrup, can i use it? If so how much and for how long?

Is this a long standing/known allergy he has or only just started? How long has it been going on for? If you've already tried to reduce any allergens in his environment it might mean that he has a bacterial or viral infection. Bacterial infections should respond to antibiotics but a viral infection will just have to run its course. You can help ned by making sure his immune system is as strong as possible. Human cough mixtures really only soothe a scratchy throat or reduce the cough response and the benefits of that are debatable.

If you haven't already, I'd get the vet out to listen to his chest/breathing to make sure he's not harbouring anything serious and maybe prescribe some antibiotics to see if that helps. Starting him on echinacea to boost his immune system might help too. But vet first x

Basically he was having nose bleeds last season, he was scoped and they suggested a dust free environment as the dust in his current environment could have been an irritant. At the time he had no cough or nasal discharge etc.

ATM he hasnt any discharge just a very tickly cough first thing in the morning! In himself he is fine and he doesnt seem to cough when ridden, or in the evening, its litterally the first half an hour out of the stable!

Agree with Box of Frogs' excellent advice.
