Recently (ie,in the last monthish) pippa has been coughing more than a horse usually might. Now, shes out 24/7 on a hill with a breeze, and she only used to cough now and again if she was in with unsoaked hay.
I cant put my finger on whats triggering it, shes shiny, eating her feeds and is perky, but now and again she'll have a horrible coughing fit-I might be leading her in from the field, grooming her, or going on a light hack, and she'll cough.
Only once has some sort of green slime appeared, and the strangest thing, in that it becomes less frequent when she's worked hard (although its still there)
Now I know this may seem silly, worrying over a cough, but im always worried it could be strangles or simaler.
How should I go about treating this? Ideally, I dont really want to get the vet out
Its just quite alarming when she'll have a huge coughing attack for no apparent reason
Thankyou for your help in advance
xx
