We had our stable yard broken in to last night and they stole a horse box and 4x4. Disturbingly they stole all our old worn head collars so we are very worried about the horses. I'm thinking if they were going to steal them they'd have done it on the same night? I've just heard of a number of yards in the area and a number of horses being stolen in the last couple of weeks?

We caught three middle men on the camera so police are pursuing this.

Has anyone else heard that this is a bad area for this sort of crime?

Nope! They'll happily steal in their own 'back garden' and the police wont do a damn thing!
I wouldnt worry about your horses, the headcollars will be for theirs! Unless theres a coloured mare or stallion or colt they like the look of....but i expect they wouldve used your own horsebox to steal any such horse they took a fancy to....bloody cheek.

Beef up your security! FYI they dont like guard dogs!!!

oh sorry to hear this , always worrying. I am glad you had some cameras, unfortunately even they are clearly not a detterent(I was thinking of getting some put in). I am in the area that lost the horses to a fire post break in. There were other thefts in Herts too, local to the stables that were burnt down etc.

The law does need to get tougher. I dont know what the answer is? Just nail everything down. I would add extra locks to your gates & check any weak points(in case they have identified what would chop the locks). I was wondering if there is some tracker device that can be ie hidden in petrol tanks to allow police to locate or the roof etc? I hope they get some result for the victims.

Even when my relative was on his yard he would challenge guys as to why they were in his farmyard(this is a yard with the house and tractors etc in sheds barns) and they would tell him they were LOST! He knew they were casing the joint.

Not unique to any area in particular. Just thieves they are not fussy.

I agree dog nice pit bull or german shepherd (belgian even better)plus lights and also if you need an alarm I still maintain donkey. Our old yard had a donkey at the entrance and I swear it would hear a pin drop and it would be the most deafening noise ever forever.

At least your animals were not gone or harmed.

I had some drive into the yard few months ago...they seemed suprised to see me there...and asked if i was intrested in buying any brooms....except they were in a small ford focus (or somthing simiular) and theyre were no brooms to be seen! I laughed at this and they turned around and drove out without saying another word....really...some people have no manners! :D
