Both my horses have quite bad dandruff type skin! If you brush them it comes off on the brush, and leaves it white so its quite disgusting!! They are not itchy or anything. They are both fed 2 cups of fast fibre and Pro Balance supplement and one also has a scoop of alfa a oil.

Any ideas what it might be, could it be the fast fibre or the supplement? thanks :)

Dandruff in horses is extremely common (if not almost universal), and unless your horse is showing signs of discomfort, it's not something that you really need to worry about. However, if you really can't stand the sight of those white flakes, a sure way to get rid of dandruff is to scrub the base of your horse's mane/tail with regular mouthwash (I typically use blue Listerine) and then wash it out. Of course it's a bit cold for this method now I absolutely swear by the mouthwash method for dandruff. But be careful, as some horses with sensitive skin don't react well to to the alcohol in the mouthwash, so it's best to spot-test your horse first.

Had this with my horse a couple of years ago - after grooming I was covered in the white scurf and the insides of my riding boots were white after I had ridden. I added oil to his feeds and this sorted the problem within a couple of weeks.
