Horse dangerous around vet - advice please!

Possibly get her used to seeing syringes eg. worming types etc.when on your own with her to become familiar with seeing them and smell with food on it and immediately reward with titbit when calm.Progress to gradually lying it on her skin until comfortable with and association with food.Worked with mine when afraid of worming syringe although you have probably a more difficult case.

For what it is worth I would not call the vet until I had done a lot of work. I also agree with the above post. I would attend to the horse daily smelling of Surgical Spirit and Hibiscrub, I would have friends come and feed/ groom and when that was OK also have them smell of surgical spirit and Hibiscrub. I would go through the whole pantomime time and time again until a smelly stranger coming and patting, in a needle like way was nothing. Even smelly stranger restraining and patting - no issue.

Yes, that could take twice daily lessons for 2 months. You will owe friends favours until the next century!

You could drug or put in stocks, but the day may come when the horse needs a vet, and I would like to think mine was prepared.

Edited to add, maybe have a strong smelling solution to put on the nose prior to strangers arriving and playing a game of strangers being close and nothing going wrong? Then the smell means a stranger is going to arrive, play about a bit then feed a treat and go. Less likely to smell the vet then too :-)
