Is this normal? My other horses haven't really reacted to misty conditions but my new boy doesn't like it at all. He just tenses up and gets a bit spooky. I suppose this is understandable considering he is a flight animal and the mist reduces visibility. Just wondering if other people's horses are like this?

Mist spooks me a bit tbh!

I don't know, it has that gohostly feel. Especially if you're hacking in rural/country areas & there isn't much traffic or people about

My old pony only ever bolted for home (well her idea of bolting...) once and that was when we went for a hack along the beach and a fog drifted in. You seriously couldn't see a step in front of you and she just freaked, spun on a sixpence and headed for home, with me laughing my head off on top. Fortunately it was only a sea mist/fog and we rode out of it pretty quickly - bless her.

My old mare once refused point blank to enter the arena because it had been raining and then the sun had come out causing a sort of swirling white mist over the surface. I had to wait until later that afternoon before she would go in and even then she was a bit spooky as though she expected the mist monster to reappear!

Once me and a friend were galloping in one of the uge fields and there was a small patch of mist, about 10m square in size, they went mad, they bolted over to the other side of the field. They just tood there and stared at the mist blowing like whales. Mist has never done that to them before, it was quite spooky tbh

My youngster gets a bit spooked by it...he kind of freezes and tries to do all he can 2 get away with not having to walk through this. He is worse with the wind though and hail as he tries to rear up, i don't think there is really much you can do about it though.

I think it freaks some out. I remember riding my warmblood into a showground for BSJA in seriously thick fog, he could hear horses all round him but couldnt see, he froze to the spot and I actually heard his heart beating it was that load. Poor boy! Im sure its perfectly normal for a flight animal to find fog / mist spooky - things can sneak up on them.
