Horse doesnt like brewers yeast is this common

Yes. Of the two of ours we fed it to one ate it without a lot of trouble but the other won't touch a feed with even the smallest amount in and she's a naturally greedy pony.
 
Which brewers yeast? The problem with BY is that an alcoholic drink has been made with it first. It has then been collected and baked. Some drinks, particularly sour Czech beers I have found, are much less palatable, and it can also be overbaked.

I have never had a horse turn its nose up at the very fine powder that smells slightly of marmite. But the stuff that smells sour and looks more like bran, mine would not eat.
 
I use the very fine powder, pony turned his nose up at first but I built up the amount over time and he is fine with it now

Eurghh I didnt realise that. I would have to check the make but it is in a clear bag with a green label and yellow writing.

She ate it the first night when I put it and the magox in water and then added her feed whereas last night I just mixed it in in powder form. I will try the water again tonight - fingers crossed. If not I will try the Yesaac which you suggested too.
 
I once gave two of mine a marmite butty. Gelding wolfed it down but the mare took it dropped it on the floor and stamped on it as if it had tried to kill her!!! Made me laugh, i hate the stuff!!!

Yes this was pretty much her reaction, she pushed the bucket over kicked it around the yard then went and stood by the feed room door looking at me meaningfully :rolleyes:
 
Agree about the different types, the fine powder is best.
I start by just sprinkling a fingerful over the feed then mixing it in well (like you'd pick up a pinch of salt) Do that for a few days then double the amount and so on; by the end of the month you should be on the full dose of it without them realising anything extra's been added at all.
 
we did try the pinch of to start but no cigar, same with table salt no chance! He was convinced onto yea-sacc instead though.
