Hello lovely people!

Not been on here for ages but wondering if anyone knows where to get really good portraits done? I don't really want a big painting or anything just a drawing perhaps. Something affordable. I want one of my dog and one of my horse.

Been looking online but can only really find paintings and pastels offered. Anyone know someone good?

My sons had a portrait done of my old dog and sent it to me after I had had her PTS. It was done by a young lady they knew. I had never seen any of her portraits before so I was incredibly nervous about opening the packaging on my portrait as I was scared that it would not 'be' my dog; you know, that the eyes might not be right or the nose etc. When I did open my package and looked at the portrait I did feel tears well up in my eyes as the artist had absolutely captured my dog perfectly. It was her! The artist did not do her portrait from a photo though, she had actually known my dog for a number of years, and apparently she only used photos in order to get her colour markings perfect.

Be careful with who you choose as there's got to be nothing worse than having a portrait done of a beloved animal and then finding once you look at it that it really doesn't capture the soul of your animal.

Papa Frita on here is very good, i ordered a pencil drawing, it was very reasonable price, prompt service and a good likeness despite me sending her a terrible quality picture. The recipient said it really captured the grumpy old sod!!

Laura, your drawings are lovely but you will get banned for advertising if you leave your posts up and admin sees them. Best to contact the OP by PM. :)

Glad you posted this! I'd like to get a pencil portrait of my sister's dog for her Christmas present. The dog is a Patterdale terrier, so I thought a pencil sketch would be best, as she is black anyway! Have lots of surreptitiously-taken photos.

Definitely look at Julieandpatrhodes.co.uk. I have had one of my horses and dogs done in pencil by her and she is brilliant and very reasonable prices. Actually I think too cheap but don't tell her that lol

Artists that usually do pastels etc may well be prepared to do a graphite/ pencil drawing for you.

Try Susan Robertson - Animal Portrait Artist on Facebook or just type in animal or pet portraits and see what comes up, there are loads on there including many of those mentioned further up the thread.

As mentioned above I have a gorgeous oil painting by laura barber riley. Just perfect horses expression and not 'copied' from a photo.

I also had recent two digital prints for my Mums dogs done by https://catherinerowedesigns.com they're more stylised artists impression than a carbon copy but I love them.

This is 6yrs old so I'd imagine the OP has found an artist by now! The new member that commented and bumped it by advertising their website and work have been deleted.
