Does anyone remember seeing this advertising campaign (I think it was through the BHS) and had the slogan "Horses don't dent, they die" and had a horrific picture of a horse who had been knocked down, with a blanket over his head and medics in attendance?

I'm trying to get hold of the picture... any help much appreciated guys
 
jayceelen OMG that is horrific!!! i could do wi posting that picture some places around here people don't give two hoots about driving past horses
 
That's what I'm thinking of doing!!

We've just had a bridleway withdrawn by the local Council forcing us onto the main road. I'm going to develop some flyers - anyone who wants one please let me know - PM with your email addy and I'll forward it to you!!!!
 
Well it's a long story... but basically I got the bridleway in Littleheath Woods in Selsdon extended and it's now been withdrawn!!

Do you remember it? Where abouts in Croydon were you? PM if you prefer
 
I dont know where it came from originally but I have it on the back of my tabard in fluorescent letters - Horse & Rider dont dent - they die. Useful on the rare occasions I venture out onto the roads (or rather cross them). My horse is particularly nervy about things he cant see coming up behind him, so I thought if it slows people down a bit (even if just to read it!) its got to be worth it.
 
OMG how awful! We need a campaign like that around here too, partly because of awful drivers and partly because they've put big metal gates on nearly all the local bridleways that you cn't open unless you get off, which I don't like to do on a hack!
 
have you contacted the BHS bridleways officer ?

also everyone needs to be aware that ANY path (foot, bridle) that isn't on their local 'definitive map' by 2012 (I think) will AUTOMATICALLY CEASE TO EXIST at that date as part of (I think) that blasted 'right to roam' act.

if you have critical 'bridleways' in your area - check with your local county council that they ARE on the definitive map.

our local bridleways officer says that there are so many non-listed bridleways that it would take 20 years beyond the cut off year to actually deal with all of them - so any help appreciated.

don't necessarily assume because there is a 'bridlepath' sign that the path IS on the definitive map.
 
I lived in Thornton Heath but I rode from a child until I left school - and after - at Selsdon Park, mind, that was until '64 so I expect a lot has changed since then. Just had a look to refresh my memory on Google Earth, if they've got it right, it's behind the houses on your right after you leave Selsdon towards Croydon on the old 64 bus route; can you link up with Shirley Hills from there, not sure? I can't remember ever knowing those woods were there if they are the right ones; we used to go through was it Croham Park golfcourse and link up with the Shirley Hills from there; are there still mounted rangers in the park from there? Sorry, totally off topic, just lots of memories!
 
For the record, I think that pic has been photoshopped. It certainly doesn't go with the news story as the car is neither a convertible nor a BMW. And why would they tow a car back to a car park before removing the horse...?
I agree with the sentiment of the blog, but what on earth happened to responsible, accurate reporting?? It undermines the WHOLE point of the campaign

PF is quite right, definitely Photoshopped & not even very well done!
If you look closely you can see the lines & angles where they have made such a poor job of it!
Also, the car's suspension appears to be intact (despite having several hundred pounds of horse landing on it!), the bonnet is a completely different colour to the rest of the car, the roof is damaged outwards not inwards & when they 'parked' it they apparently virtually took out the car next to it!
I could go on but.......!
 
Sorry Moonwalker I didnt explain that very well - I meant I dont know where the slogan came from originally, but as for my tabard I (ahem) made it myself, in a rather sad Blue Peter kind of way. I took the fluorescent patch off an old TransCo jacket, cut out the letters and stitched them on to a plain yellow tabard. You may be able to buy them going off the links posted below, but Im with you, I cant see where you would buy them from.

Yes they do those stickers the seller is dillonsmum a really nice lady whom I have bought stickers from and other things as well.
Also if you look at my link on the forum about buying a bale of hay for charity there is a horse charity who have a website, are on the forum and ebay too called emwfundraising ( on ebay) that sell car stickers for charity ( very good too) with the slogan horses don't dent they die ( it has a picture on it too).
Take a look at them too.
The one's Dillonsmum is selling ( she also sells t shirts too) go on the outside of cars/trailers/tshirts/hi viz/hats etc so you would need to secure with an extra lining over the top to help preserve them in all weathers. The car stickers by emw go inside the car window/trailer window.
I would be very interested in those tabards though with the slogan now if no one does them I am wondering whether it may be an ideal venture for emw/ilph or another horse welfare organisation to arrange. Perhaps getting the slogan printed onto hi vis wear unless someone already has the tm rights I don't know? If a printing company was willing to do it cheaper then some funds could also be raised for a worthwhile horse charity as that would be very apt in my opinion.
So if anyone is reading this please mull the idea over will you ?
