Horse drooling??!

My horse has been drooling while being ridden for the last 2 days he hasn't got snot so don't think it's choke I'm pretty worried.. His teeth are due so could it be that? He is his normal self. please help? My mums old horse used to do it a lot but more when she got older. It's not throff it's like dog drool
 
One of mine does this - he could lasso passing dog walkers with it!
It did improve when he had his teeth done, but my equine dentist said he is just a horse who produces more than normal amounts of saliva!
 
I'd bring the teeth check forward to put your mind at ease. It is most likely to be his teeth or he could have a sore in his mouth but that can be checked for when he has his teeth done too.
 
My friends pony started doing this and he had a stick lodged inbetween his teeth on his upper jaw! He was ok for 2 days then he went off his food, vet called and we couldn't believe it when she pulled it out. I'd never heard of it before in horses.

It can be caused by teeth, also by something its eaten. Here is a link to a common problem - grass slobbers. I know its an american link but it still covers plants in the UK. Red clover has a large quantity of cyanide in it which can also cause ataxia if eaten in large quantities.

Thank you I've had a look we have two others out in the same feild and eating the same grass.. I'm ringing the dentist tomorrow as he does get problems with sharp teeth so has to be done regularly, he has never drooled before though but I'm hoping it's just something the dentist can sort out. Thanks again

greetings from Australia, I encountered the same problem with my pony a few weeks back ,she was dropping food whilst grazing then I would notice her looking a little vague and drooling whilst resting, she also developed scours. had peter lane a brilliant equine dentist we have in Victoria visit and he discovered a tree pruning that was green lodged far back in her throat, thankfully she didn't swallow it it would have been fatal for her, a week in antibiotics and all is well. peter lane told me that although not common, he has seen this a few times, for pictures see www.ultimateequinedentistry.com.au I hope this helps a little, cheers from sunny australia
