My ned pushed his saddle and it fell on the floor! It landed seat down and it's got scratches on the pommel and a few on the cantle now! It's a newish falcon gp.
How can I check it isn't damaged? it doesn't move or anything when I jiggle it. It didn't fall hard or make much noise but I am so cross with myself for leaving it in a silly place.

oh I don;t know what sort of tree it is. It came with my horse though it was only 6 months old when I got it. What sort of stamp should I look for? All I have noticed are some numbers near the girth strap. And MW which i assume is medium wide!!!!

Hold the pommel against your thigh. Press one hand into the seat and pull the cantle toward you with the other. If the tree is broken you'll feel it give.

Then turn it around, put the cantle on your thigh. Hold the front underneath the pommel and pull outward and upward. Again if the tree is broken you'll feel it give.

Finally turn it over and look at the gullet. It should run in a straight line from pommel to cantle. If the tree is twisted or broken it will deviate.

If it fails only of these you'll have to get a saddler to check it. A saddle with a broken tree is dangerous for both of you.

But take heart. My lad has pushed his onto the floor a time or two and the only damage has been cosmetic.

i was just going to give you the advice that shay give you. its just if its a spring tree, its flexible and can move and bend slightly when you try the broken tree test XD. If it is a spring tree it would have it clearly printed/stamped on the saddle. It sounds like yours is just a rigid tree if you cant find a stamp. but if the saddle is can bend alot, i would think its broken. besides theres been plenty of times when my saddles fell on the floor and its been cosmetic

If you don't really know what you are doing or feeling for, it is very easy to miss a new break or fracture. Get a saddler to check it. It will only take a few minutes and should cost you nothing. If the scratches are light, they can probably remove them for you too.
