I was recommended by Mary King no less to use horse ear plugs to try and get my boy to travel better on the motor way - does anyone know where I can buy them? Failing that she suggested stuffing them with cotton wool - any idea how I can persuade him that this is a good idea - at 17'2 I have no idea how I am going to get anything into his ears!! Any suggestions gratefully received! Thanks x

For fear the tampons may fall out! I use one of the sponges you get which give instant polish to boots. I then cut the sponge in half and stick that down his ears. The sponge seems to be thicker than a normal sponge and although my bot doesn't like them going in (this is my 6ft 4" boyfriends job

) once they are in he doesn't bother. There is always enough of the sponge to grab to get them out too!

Another one for roled up tights. I wouldn't use cotton wool as bits can stick in once removed. We used balls of rolled up tights on the eventers. Small long balls and you have to really squish them in. If you put a fly viel over the top then it should stop them flying out, but make sure they are secure.
If you put the tampons in water first wouldn't they be wet?

I bought a set for the very same reason, bought at Olympia from I think it Champion Tails or Supreme something or other, will have a look later, they do a showing brochure with them in it.

So is the general consensus that tights are the best thing to use? Also, what situations do most of you use earplug type things for?!?

my friend who rides at Grand Prix level told me about them - i use them for indoor arenas as my horse hates the noise !! easier for showjumping though as we can wear a fly vail !

Oh so you actually compete with them in? I have bought a fly veil so am going to have a go with travelling in his trailer with the tights in then - although still no idea how I am going to hold him to get them in, he is more than a little wilful, might have to put them in the night before rather than have that fight then the fight of loading an hour or so later! x
