Does or has anyone used horse ear plugs in their horses? Someone has said to me about trying them in my horse while clipping as he hates the sound. Not too sure though, would be great to hear if anyone has any stories.

Thanks

I read somewhere someone said to soak tampons so that they expand, dry them and use them in the horses ears, can't remember where I read it, on EW I think, I haven't tried it so can't comment on effectiveness but they seemed happy enough with the way it worked on their horse.

I used to put cotton wool in Benj's ears but as he hates his ears being touched, the tampon thing is ideal! Plus you can't lose them!

JAK and I had a hilarious convo about it in here about 2yrs ago.

Soak the tampons, dry them and put them in your horses ears with the strings hanging out - voila!! Only pontential problems arise, if the horse doesn't like it's ears being touched.....

That is fantastic lol!!!!

Thank you very much for that idea, my (male) yard manager will want to hang himself after seeing this new trick!!

Would a super plus applicator one work I wonder! Ohh my poor horsey!!!

You can just use a large piece of sponge. Just remember to be brave and put them in properly first time. If they only go in a short way, this irrtates the horse and they will shake them out within seconds. Shove them down as far as you can and very few horses will even realise they are in.
