What have been your best and worst horsey buys? Were they good value for money?

* I have a leather Shires ragley padded headcollar that was only £15 and it's been fantastic. It's 2 years old and still cleans up beautifully and i expect it to last for many years to come.

* I would never buy a Bucas sunshower rug again. It's not even waterproof in light drizzle and was quite expensive for a LW rug. A real shame, as their smartex rugs have always been fab.

* My horseware duo was well worth the money. Expensive rug but I'd buy another. Is lasting so well that it will probably be excellent value 'per wear' by the time it dies! ;)

My bridles are one thing that I don't skimp on - I would much rather spend a bit of money on a bridle, and *hopefully* (!!) know that its not going to fall to pieces a) when I'm riding or b) in 3 months time. I have a stubben bridle that is about 12 years old, and still going strong, despite my sister's best efforts of ruining the leather! After she left it to be trashed in he manky tack room, it looks a little jaded now, but still scrubs up ok :)

I don't like the new Masta rugs, but my 4yo is now wearing our dear old pony's rug (sadly departed bless her). Said masta rug is about 8/9 years old, and is still good for the job. Can't complain about it, seeing as it was only brought as a cheapy at the time :)

All my gang have leather headcollars - but never cost more than £15 / £20 at the most. All scrub up beautifully, and do the job plenty well.

ALso my thorowgood dressage girth - all £17 of it - is the best girth that I Have found to use on pretty much every horse I have tried it on. It's the only girth that doesn't pinch or rub my girl, you can bung it in the washing machine, or easily clean it up with a stiff brush and a bit of warm water.

I do like to get cheap stuff where I can - but there are certain things - bridles and riding hats mainly - that I cannot see the point in penny pinching on :)

My lad normally has Rambo rugs as they seem to fit him beautifully but my saddlery didn't have his size fleece in so i thought i'd get a cheap Loveson one to keep me going until his Rambo one came in off order.
I must admit that the £17 Loveson one fit's him really well and is doing a grand job on these cooler evenings.
His Rambo will be available at the end of this month which is a good thing as the stitching is starting to fray a little on the back seam but it's done it's job for the month he's been wearing it :)
I even have someone who wants to buy it off me for £10 so it's only cost me £7!!!
