Lance fell through the hedge onto the road this morning.

I think he was trying to get at some longer grass near the hedge, and slid down the ditch into the hedge, so decided to go through it, however he got stuck half way, half on the road, his back leg got caught in a pig wire fence, very old, at the bottom of the hedge, there is a slope to the road.

his foot was actually between the wire squares.

Do you know what the sausage did while he was being freed....grazed.

I thik the only time Lance would ever panic would be if he ran out of food!

anyway once he was free it was a walk up the road back to the yard, thankfully he was a good boy, he is totally fine, just a cut heal, skin like an elephant that one!

mind you he is chuffed now as we have put them all in the front field until we fix the hole in the hedge, so lots of grass!

I dont think he looks particularly traumatised!

I dont mind any to be honest, I just hate one I got now its a wintec but its not very comfy. I have seen loads of nice ones, I like the jeffries saddles but mother wont buy one of them I dont think

LOL!

I havea wintec 2000 for Lance, find it really comfy, also got a wintec dressage but dont like the equileather, v slippy!

Ideal saddles are lovely and about £600 new!

I have the dressage one for ben its poop. Well I dont like it anyway. What do you have for beau?

Oh I love ideal saddles they are lush. Will have a gander at them ones

Beau came with the wintec dressage but I dont really like it, and he is too wide for it now anyway!

Im going to get him a VSD as a GP seems to really block his shouder, but pure dressage saddles arent v comfy to hack in!

Lol nope the arent.I also like the gfs saddles they are nice. Spoilt for choice, I have no idea what size ben is?? Saddler can worry bout that lol.

Absolutely! also with the dressage saddle it looks tiny on Beau with the size of him!

Ben looks quite broad, best bet is to get saddler out, he should have lots of 2nd hand ones too hopefully!

I think I am getting new, mother said to get new so probs will but I dont mind having a 2nd hand one. Its for hacking and showing, jumping so dont have to be new really. Well ben has huge withers and is broad aswell.

Glad that your poor horse is ok. My highland went through a fence and into a river, when he was two years old. (he is now rising 16) It tool three fire engines and a tractor to pull him out. Good job he was sensible as the hunky firemen had to pass an air bag under him to lift him. He had been in the river all night. Luckily, no lasting damage, just elephant legs and very stiff the next day. Great shame of it was that I was so worried about him, I forgot to notice the dishy firemen, I did thank them afterwards though.

hes a star well done big man for not stressing out,im glad hes ok i bet you paniced more than he did ?

my old horse tried to jump out to the greener grass on the other side ! i looked at him and thought hes been stood there rather a long time so i went to investagate !! he had the top square of that wire around the top of his back leg and had just stood there eating waiting for us to free him,he didnt have a mark on him lol made me laugh how he just stayed there as chilled as anything !!

May I suggest that you have the old wire removed from the hedge and have your field re-fenced with fencing that will prevent this happening again as it would be terrible if your horse was injured next time or got on the road and caused an accident. Owners of horses are responsible for any accidents they cause if they escape so please make sure that you have third partry pubic liability insurance of at least £10,000,000

you may suggest that, but at the end of the day not everyone can afford to post and rail every boundary, and not everyone owns the land the horse is on!

We recently had new post and rail fencing put up were needed in the field, its 8 acres, the hedge is the boundary on that side though, it was just unfortante that he fell through it. They arent usually in that field at this time of year, hence why the hedge is a bit sparse, but with the wet summer had they didnt get off their winter grazing until much later than usual.

As for the wire, we didnt even know it was there because it was very old and inside the established hedge.

My horses are insured, im not stupid, these things happen unfortunately, and Im just happy he was ok.

They are now in the front field until it can be sorted out so it doesnt happen again.
