Horse eye infection

My horse has conjunctivitis. I've cleaned his eyes and put a hood on him.
I'm the first to shout call a vet with eyes having fought uveitis for years. However this is both eyes are sticky there is absolutely no weeping (watery as in pain response) they are wide open even in bright sunlight and totally no swelling.
I'm 100% certain of what it is. Several horses at my work have had it recently and tbh chances are I've transferred it to him. The horses at work all recovered quickly with no veterinary treatment.
What would you do? Vet or give it a day or so?

Having had conjunctivitis myself and knowing how easy it is to become reinfected without anti-b treatment, I would get the vet.

You could try bathing the eyes with cooled strong, black tea - my vet recommended this to me when one of mine had a puffy eye, might work for yours. If it's not clear in a day or so, then get the vet out.

I had thought tea, I think just to be on the safe side (having lectured people mercilessly for years over the importance of eye's and horses!) I will give my vet a call and explain then he can decide, if they are still not good when I go to do the school run and call in to check him in a bit.

Maybe if you explain to your vet he can recommend some drops or let you pick some up without having to have him out. Mine gave me some drops last week for one with conjunctivitis, cleared up completely within a day!

Yes I imagine that's what he will probably do. I have a huge collection of eye drops, I kept in stock for our other horse and only threw open bottles away- so he can probably just tell me which ones are suitable

My vet sold me a salve for my horse when she came down with conjunctivitis this summer (twice!) and the salve did no blooming good, in the end a pot of really strong black and green tea sorted her out in under 12 hours. I think like other people have said it's perfectly reasonable to give it a day or so before ringing the vet providing it's not becoming worse.

Eyes are not something I would mess around with. It may be conjunctivitis but there is also that slim chance that it isn't.
If it were me, I would get the vet out for peace of mind.

I have a tube of goldeneye which you can get over the counter at chemists. It has the same active ingredient as the one my vet usually prescribes.

We had two horses with conjunctivitis recently, I used cold tea on my mare and it worked fine, and the other horse's owner brought down golden eye for me to use on her horse, I'm not usually one for using human products on horses but I used it on him and it did clear it up faster than the cold tea. x
