Our Appaloosa recently had a flare-up of uveitis and the affected eye needs full protection from the sun. He is wearing a 90% UV mask with the affected side covered with duct tape - we change the mask and tape every morning and evening to ensure it is clean, but I am just wondering if there is any other eye patch solution?

It's no big deal, we can keep taping and it works well. I just wasn't sure if anyone had invented some sort of horse eye patch or a mask with one side blacked out already? He is coping exceptionally well with being 'blind' one side and the eye is really improving thankfully.

A horse at my livery yard had an accident that resulted in a detached retina, and subsequent eye removal. While he was recovering, his owner used something like this, which I've heard called racing blinkers or pacifiers. The full mesh eye cover meant she could tape over it, and she could remove the other side so he had full range of vision on that side. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but an option.

I sewed a bit of black cloth over half the mask. Just be careful - my (not so) clever pony nearly took out his other eye as he stuck his head in the hedge and, not being able to see on one side, managed to stick a thick twig through the mask ?

When my horse injured his eye last year, the hospital gave him this. The goggle has small holes so he can see a little but they are easily covered if you want total blackout. The other eye doesn't have a goggle so he can see normally. I think it was about £70

We using the racing pacifiers and duct tape over the side we need covered. We have had a horse wearing this set up recently.

I am extending my sympathies as mine is going through a flare right now (uveitis is just awful to deal with isn't it?). I saw flies crawling into the guardian mask; as there's no stretch to them it's impossible to have no gaps. We are now in a duct taped equilibrium.

It's a really hard thing to deal with isn't it? I'm feeding mine sea buckthorn from nupafeed at the moment and I think it might be helping. I miss her face too, now she's always masked up.
