"AN equestrian centre owner must pay an extra €30,000 in damages to a solicitor because of "outrageous" fraud allegations made in a lawsuit over a horse riding accident.

Mr Hennessy sought damages arising out of an accident on February 22, 2004 when he suffered an injury after he came off a horse because of the negligence or breach of duty of Mr Cusack and his centre.

Yesterday, Mr Hennessy was awarded €75,000 after the judge increasing his award from €45,000 over fraud allegations made by Mr Cusack's side during the hearing, claiming that Mr Hennessy had never actually ridden the horse."

Leaving aside the actual case I'm surpised that once the case had gone to court it was claimed that the injured person had never ridden the horse!

He did (let's call him A) ride it and fell off it, but the guy responsible for the negligence (B) then said A hadn't ever sat on the horse.

A bit of a mad thing to say, really and rather made matters worse, lying, (it appears) on top of being found negligent!

Oooh, negligence and defamation, two of my favourite torts, all in one case!
